Staying at 66 Saint Paul’s is like being in an Instagram lifestyle shot

Boutique hotel set in 17th century Palazzo in the heart of Valletta, Malta

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

66 Saint Paul’s is a beautiful hotel. Walking in through the unassuming street entrance, be prepared to enter a different world: a converted 17th century Palazzo has been elegantly and thoughtfully re-created as a true destination for the 21st century traveller. So much more than a boutique hotel, 66 Saint Paul’s is the ultimate reinvention of not being at home for the true aesthete.

Original elements and architectural features have been restored to ensure the authenticity of the palazzo remains, while new elements acknowledge the heritage of the palace while being fit for today’s demands. 400 year old stone flagstones and original walls sit beside a spectacular, polished concrete spiral staircase and spacious, silent and swift elevator. A retractable glass roof creates the perfect inside - outside environment over the original courtyard; this is a now a comfortable and sophisticated lounge and eat/work/ space with golden, mellow light from dawn till dusk. It is truly stunning.

The overall atmosphere is that lovely hushed calm you can feel when walking in off a city street to a secret garden. The staff are immaculately turned out, knowledgeable and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and they are clearly very proud of their incredible hotel and rightly so.

There are 18 rooms and each one is unique. The design is contemporary classic – cool, relaxed and luxurious with muted colours and sumptuous fabrics. The beds are, without doubt, the best in Malta for a wonderful night’s sleep. Nothing has been forgotten: from the well-equipped writing desks, flat screens, Nespresso coffee machines and Molton Brown toiletries, to the comfortable armchairs, well stocked mini bar and high tech climate control.

Some of the larger rooms have balconies with external views and some have internal courtyard terraces. An adapted room for wheelchair users or those with mobility issues is also available. Wardrobe space in all rooms is generous and the attention to detail and quality of the fixtures and fittings is evident at every turn.

The Grand Harbour Suite on the 6th floor has private lift access and a beautiful zebra effect colour scheme. There is a large living area and Juliet balconies with views over the harbour; the elegant bedroom has a super king sized bed and a private sun terrace. The bathroom is luxurious and spacious.

Each room has its own special feature and the only difficulty is to choose one.

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of St Paul Street in Valletta providing easy access to all the city’s sights and restaurants, whilst having bedroom and rooftop views straight out over Grand Harbour, one of the most iconic harbours in the world. Waking to the sound of the ships and liners entering port is a lovely experience.

The rooftop plunge pool is an aqua delight in the city heat and, with a fabulous, well stocked bar, loungers and a timber deck area, you are all set for a day’s reading, lazing and reclining.

The basement is home to one of Malta’s premier beauty spas – Myoka. Providing a full range of services and treatments, the low ceilings and dim lights create a tranquil hideaway in the city. Open to non-guests ,this may be the perfect retreat after work or a day’s shopping in Valletta, followed by a glass of champagne at the bar. From massages to treatments, beauty and well-being, there is even a bespoke service for ‘Him’ as well as for ‘Her’.

Buffet breakfast is served daily and is also open to non -guests: offering freshly baked bread and pastries, as well as a good selection of cheese, deli meats, savoury bakes, fresh fruit and fragrant coffee, it is continental breakfast at its best. Beautifully displayed, you can’t decide whether to take a photo or eat the lot!

Staying at 66 Saint Paul’s is like being in an Instagram lifestyle shot – but real and better. There is an air of tranquillity and ease at the hotel that is addictive. Guests pop in and out as the location is so convenient; visitors drop in for a look or an espresso.

The hotel itself is all the things you know would make your life perfect, if you just had enough time to buy those pillows or teacups, or arrange that bathroom installation or light fitting, or choose that wallpaper. Luckily Emma and Pietro, the owners, have done it for you, with the help of their interior designers LOFT Projects - so all you have to do is book it and enjoy.
